John has been an avid photographer since 1979. After retiring from the practice of law in 2013, John has operated Kernodle.Photography as a "hobby business" focused mostly on motorsports photography.
During the period of 2016-24, John was a photographer for has the International GT racing series (IGT) that includes The Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy, The Stuttgart Cup, and The Maranello Cup championships for contemporary Porsche and Ferrari GT race cars. IGT races take place at legendary road courses all over the United States and it shares race weekends with the SportsCar Vintage Racing Association, the TransAm series and other SCCA pro series. Thus John had the opportunity to photograph a variety of vintage, historic, and modern racing cars.
John holds a Photography Certificate from the University of Tennessee. He is a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), the American Society of Photographers (ASP), and the Tennessee Professional Photographers Association (TNPPA).

The success of his motorsports images in PPA's International Photo Competition has included having one image selected to PPA's Showcase Collection, five images selected to PPA's Imaging Excellence Collection, a Gold Award, two Bronze Awards, and earning his Master of Photography Degree.
John’s motorsports photography has been published in the magazines Vintage Racing Quarterly, SpeedTour Quarterly, Cars & Parts, and SportsCar.
